Dear Valued Patient,

It is with sadness that I need to report that I will be closing my practice, effective 12:01 a.m. March 1, 2016.

I was born and raised in Bloomington. My wife and I chose Bloomington to raise our children. My father opened a medical practice here in 1969 and we have a combined 53 years of medical service to this community.

As I am sure you are aware, there have been dramatic changes in health care nationally, regionally and locally. It was my full intention to finish my career and live out my natural life in Bloomington; however, current conditions have made it impossible to continue practicing here. I will be relocating to Maryville, Tennessee and joining the faculty of Blount Memorial Hospital, just outside of Knoxville.

Please let me say that it has been a privilege and an honor to serve as your surgeon. The trust and confidence that you placed in me go beyond words. Of the many things that I will miss about this community, leaving my patients is, perhaps, the most difficult.

You may call our office to request a copy of your medical records or to request that we transfer your medical records to another provider. On the attached sheet, I have listed the contact information for the other general surgeons in Bloomington. There are, unfortunately, no other lap band surgeons in Bloomington. Therefore, I have provided contact information for regional centers. I have also included my new contact information. I encourage all of you to contact one of these physicians as soon as possible. It is very important to establish care before an emergency should happen.

Once again, let me thank you for giving me eighteen wonderful years to serve this community and I wish all of you the very best.

Dr. James B. Ray, MD
